LAZ 11/10/2000  - Want to spend under $50 dollars for a flight stick that you can configure to the needs of each specific game? Well this stick can do it, and it might just be what the doctor ordered.

LAZ Review Breakdown 63.5
First Impression Paying $49 for a flight stick set my expectations fairly low, so when I first laid eyes on it I was neither highly impressed nor depressed. However, knowing Interact is a company that makes quality products - I knew that the proof would be in the pudding. 6.5
Software Installation The software installation went smooth, and the paper manual included easy to follow instructions with several pictures to help along the way. My install was 29.6 meg, which I think is somewhat excessive for a game controller. You must note that the bulk of this installation is for their controller interface. 7.0
Software Controller Interface This controller interface was very good, powerful, and easy to use. I was able to find my way around the interface without difficulty. The interface enables you to extensively configure each button on the controller, relatively easily. You can save profiles for specific games, then easily select them prior to loading your game. 8.0
Game Included None. It would be nice to have a flight sim with this controller, to help showcase how smooth the stick feels while maneuvering in flight. 4.0
Help Instructions The paper manual instructions were easy to read, included pictures, and were functional - to a point. This controller has a very configurable interface and it would be nice to have integrated help in the interface. It has a Windows style help screen with index searching, but it could be much more robust than it is (their newer products have addressed this, and have excellent help with great pictures). I visited their new and improved (very nice, you should check it out) web site to see what kind of help is offered online. As of the date of this review, they did not offer an online manual and their questions and answers could definately use some help (I would recommend the customer support guys document their questions and answers and send them to the web guys for posting). 7.0
Comfort The joystick is built nice, and designed to fit left and right handers well... and it does. It operates very smooth and the buttons are located in easy to use spots on the controller. 7.0
Construction (Quality) This controller is built well and functions nicely for what it was intended... to be a very affordable, very configurable joystick - and it is. The stick includes suction cups on the bottom, to help it stick to the top of your desk. 5.0
Looks The stick and buttons look fairly average, not ugly or depressing... just not something that you would write to your buddies bragging about. 5.0
Value (price for what you get) Well for less than $50 you can have a very configurable joystick that works well in a variety of joystick venues, and especially well in flight sims. 7.0
Recommend to Others You can really enjoy your games and have much better control over them with a controller like this. I like flight sticks for flying and wheels for driving, and this stick will do both types of games well... but keeping with what I like, this is a good flight stick value. 7.0

RECOMMENDATIONS to the Vendor

LAZ

  • Integrate the help and offer your newer interfaces with this product - (readers should check their web site to see if they already do this).
  • Find an older flight sim to ship with this product to help showcase the great flying maneuverability of this stick.
